I suppose you might be thinking that I am refering to LittleBigPlanet on the PSP by that title, but I am not. What I am refering to is how user created content in video games reaches far and wide. We make friends, heart levels and share creations with people all over the world.
This website is a testament to the enduring community and friendships that get forged (sorry for the pun) through level editors. We started by sharing map ideas, and as the last few years went by moved onto more games and consoles. Our site has slowly grown from a blog to a site covering many User Created Content titles. Many of us have visited each other in different states and countries.
So, it should not surprise me to bump into someone at E3 today who's maps I am already familiar. While Checking out the very impressive Sony area at E3 I spotted a couple of people playing LittleBigPlanet. I recognized the level as Little Dead Space which you may have played or seen in the showcase here. When I asked if it was, Mark Valledor a Product Marketing Manager for Sony informed me that the level was created by the man on his left.
Lucas Sparks (PSN ID - DarknessBear) Was there to represent the community of LittleBigPlanet. Some of the levels DarknessBear is known for creating in LBP are Little Dead Space 1 & 2 and The Tales of Pirate Sweeny. Lucas is also a 3D modeler and some of his eccellent work can be seen at 3DBear.Blogspot.com. After talking about level making and the community for a few minutes I had to go, but I look forward his next creation and wondering who will I bump into next.
I have to give it to Sony for getting some of the community involved in showing LBP at E3. Who else could be more passionate or qualified for showing the game and it's level editor. Remember when you are sharing and building your levels they touch many people. You never know where or who your creations might lead to.
